About me
I am Edmarverson A. Santos, a Public International Law Analyst. I hold a Master’s degree in International Law, and my work focuses primarily on public international law, particularly the use of force, state responsibility, jurisdiction, treaty law, international humanitarian law, human rights, and international courts.
My research examines how international legal rules operate in practice, particularly in situations involving state conduct, sovereignty, armed conflict, accountability, jurisdiction, and international cooperation. I approach international law as a functioning legal system whose rules, institutions, and principles shape the conduct of states, international organizations, and other actors in international affairs.
I founded DiplomacyandLaw.com as an independent platform dedicated primarily to research and analysis in public international law. The platform also covers diplomacy, international relations, and global affairs where they intersect with international legal questions. Its purpose is to bridge the gap between specialist legal scholarship and wider public understanding by presenting complex international law issues in a clear, structured, and analytically rigorous way.
My work has been cited in parliamentary and government research, international legal scholarship, and academic publications. This includes research produced by the Library of Parliament of Canada and the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI), academic scholarship published by Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press, and analysis published by the American Bar Association. My work has also been referenced and quoted in international media.
Diplomacy & Law is written for professionals, researchers, students, policymakers, and readers with a serious interest in international law and international affairs. Its objective is to provide independent, legally grounded analysis of contemporary international issues and the legal rules that govern them.

Why This Platform Exists
International law and diplomacy shape global outcomes—from armed conflict and humanitarian crises to trade, migration, and institutional governance. Yet meaningful discussion of these subjects is often either inaccessible or oversimplified.
This project exists to provide context, legal grounding, and analytical depth to ongoing international developments, enabling informed engagement beyond headlines or political rhetoric.
